In a time when many workers are getting no raise at all and teacher salaries lag behind, KIPP Delta's Scott Shirey got an early Christmas present from KIPP's private nonprofit Board of Directors in the form of a $22,000 per year raise, taking his total compensation package to $125,000 per year to run the quasi-private charter school. This information was obtained from various locations on the KIPP website under the section containing information that is required to be posted under state law.
Unconfirmed reports submitted to this website have provided information that Shirey received this raise, equivalent to approximately 2/3 of a starting teacher's annual salary in many school districts, at the same time he was actually having to reduce some staff.
