Eight members of the Helena-West Helena Central High School Cougar Track team qualified for the state meet at yesterday's 5A-Central Conference Track meet. The Cougar team finished third in the conference. Coach Russell Smith was pleased with the performance. He said, "We were short-handed and young. I expect that next year we will do even better. We need more participation so that we can have more kids in the sprints and distance events. I was very pleased with our overall performance. We had a chance to win it."
Qualifying for the state track meet were: Rasheem Barton, 110m and 300m hurdles; Devonta Herred, shotput; Javon Donald, long jump and triple jump; Jeremy Hampton, 400m dash and high jump; Kameron Davis, high jump; and the mile relay team consisting of Keith Rowan, Markese Williams, Alex Collier, and Hampton.
