Helena-West Helena Central 64 Sylvan HIlls 60

SHERWOOD- Twenty-one points from Anthony Lewis propelled the Helena-West Helena Central Cougars (4-4, 1-2) to a 64-60 win over the Sylvan Hills Bears at the Sylvan Hills High School Gymnasium.

The game was tight throughout with Sylvan Hills leading 19-16 at the end of the first quarter and 29-28 at the intermission.  In a game that featured five ties and seven lead changes, the second half was no different.  The Cougars took the lead late in the third quarter by a score of 47-44.

In the fourth quarter, Sylvan Hills' Delsin Parker hit a three to cut the score to 51-50.  On the next possession, Lewis answered with a three of his own to make the score 54-50.  But that was as close as the Bears would get.
Frederick Bedford added 19 points for the Cougars, including all 10 second chance points scored by Helena-West Helena.  The Cougars also made 13-21 free throws compared to just 3-5 for the Bears.

Cougar Coach Willie Jackson said, "I am proud of our guys fighting hard tonight after a couple of tough losses.  We played hard, and we played smart.

In girls' action, the Lady Bears ended the game on a 14-0 run on the way to a 67-45 win over the Lady Cougars (3-5, 1-2)
