After jumping to the 9-0 lead, the Cougars responded with a 7-0 run of their own, but that is as close as Helena-West Helena would get as the Red Devils extended the lead to 21-12 at the end of the first quarter. A three-point shot at the end of the first half by Jacksonville's Sergio Berkley pushed the lead to 17 points at 42-25 headed into the intermission.
In the third quarter, the Cougars cut the lead to 44-30, but the Red Devils went on an 11-0 run punctuated by two three point shots by Aaron Smith to push the lead to 25 points at 55-30.
Jacksonville was led by Smith 21 points, followed by McCleary with 17 points. Helena-West Helena was led by Jouvan Donald with 14 points, followed by Frederick Bedford with 13 points.
In girls' action, Jacksonville remained perfect in 5A-Central play by defeating the Lady Cougars (3-6, 1-3) 74-36. It was 30-4 at the first quarter and the Lady Devils never looked back. Jacksonville was led by Shakyla Hill with 17 points, followed Keaundra Alcorn and Jessica Jackson with 13 points.
