HELENA-WEST HELENA- A three point basket by Tikal Smith with two seconds left put the Central Jr. High Cougar Cats over the top against the Pine Bluff Robey Colts 34-33.
The game was tight throughout with Helena-West Helena leading 10-5 at the end of the first quarter. Robey came back to take the lead at 15-13 at the half.
Robey took the 33-31 with 30 seconds left. Helena-West Helena Coach Robert Carter called a timeout with 12.3 seconds left to set up the winning play for Smith.
Leading the way for the Cats was Smith with 11 points, followed by Malik Rodgers with. Free throws were the only problem for the Central as the Cats were only 10-25 from the charity stripe.
In girls' action the Central Lady Cougar Cats got in the win column with a 45-39 victory over Pine Bluff. Helena-West Helena was led by Kevonshae Stackhouse with 27 points. Chelsea Holiday and Khadijah Allen each followed with six points each.
