It's very simple. If the Helena-West Helena Central Cougars win their Thursday battle against the Crossett Eagles at Cad Polk Stadium Thursday night, then HWHCHS makes the playoffs. If the Cougars fail to come out victorious, Coach Willie Jackson will be getting out the basketballs.
The Cougars are seeking their first trip to the postseason since 2009. Helena-West Helena comes into the game with an overall record of 4-4 and a 3-3 record in 5A-Southeast conference play. Crossett comes into the contest with an overall record of 2-7 and a 2-4 record in the 5A-Southeast. However, the Eagles have won two of their last three games.
Helena-West Helena has the edge in most of the statistical categories. The Cougars average 28.13 points per game while Crossett only puts 14.89 points on the board on average. The Cougars defense gives up 25.88 points per game, but Crossett is giving up 29.67 points on average. The Cougars have outscored their opponents on the year by an average of 2.25 points per game while the Eagles have been outscored by their opponents by an average of 14.78 points per game.
However, the series history has been kind to the Eagles. Since 1996, Helena-West Helena has faced Crossett 13 times with the Eagles holding an 8-5 advantage in the series.
Kickoff for the game is 7:00 pm Thursday. Senior Night activities will begin at 6:30.
