Chaos Reigned on Black Friday

The Memphis Commercial Appeal has dubbed "Black Friday" as "Black and Blue" Friday in an article detailing the shopping experience woes suffered by many across the country. Of course, Black Friday is the now traditional start of the Christmas Shopping Season. Many retailers take advantage of the day by offering "door buster" sales. These sales attract large crowds because there are a limited number of certain items and the time span for the sale is typically short.

Scuffles ensued as customers sought the "must have" gifts of this Christmas season. The Xbox seems to be the in demand item this year. That gadget lead to a teenage girl being trampled, however left with only minor injuries while a woman used "pepper spray" to "get an advantage" in the Xbox line in a west coast Wal*mart store.

According to the Commercial Appeal, "Last year, the Thanksgiving shopping weekend accounted for 12.1 percent of overall holiday sales, according to ShopperTrak, a research firm. Black Friday made up about half of that."
