The Helena West Helena City Council is scheduled to meet tonight in a special called meeting on a regular meeting night. The city council's regular meetings are scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month at 6:00 p.m. The city council has somehow gotten off schedule and has been meeting on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays here lately.
Aldermen Marvin Jarrett, Larry Brown and Christopher Franklin have signed a request to hold a special
"Debt Reduction" meeting tonight. Alderman Jarrett has been heard on KJIW FM Radio requesting that the general public attend the meeting.

Helena District Court Restraint Chair |
On the horizon is the plan to reduce the city's reported indebtedness. Thus far, the city has moved nearly $700,000.00 from its water department to its general fund to cover expenses. There have been overtures made that water bills may be increased on citizens by as much as $10.00 each for 18 to 24 months.

Black and White Police Cruiser |
The District Court reportedly has an "electric chair" within the courtroom now. This chair was installed to assist the police in controlling the unruly. There was no comment on whether the city council will install a similar machine in the council room to assist with controlling citizens who tend to speak out from the audience in council meetings.
Finally, the interim, not-so-interim, Police Chief Ray Price called for many major changes in police operations in Helena-West Helena. One of his major tenets was to replace the police cars with new black and white big city styled police cruisers. Well, the Black and White Police Cruisers are here.
