We are quoting a posting from Mr. Bill Wilkins, a dear friend and class mate of Charles Hanks:
@HWH Facebook, I (Bill Wilkins) have been asked to announce the funeral arrangements for our beloved brother...Charles Hanks...who passed away last Thursday due to complications with diabetis. Brother Hanks' military memorial services will be held on Friday the 8th of July, at the Wellspring United Methodist Church, located at 6200 Williams Dr., Georgetown, Texas. Service will begin at 11:00.
For more information and expressing condolences call the family at 512-868-9182. Our prayers are with the family.
I (Bill Wilkins) remember Charles Hanks as being one of the sixteen original black kids that integrated Central High School in 1965. And, being the first black athlete to start on the Central High "Indians" basketball team. And start he did...immediately having an impact on Central teams and providing us with many Friday nights of exciting basketball. The closest thing that I can use to help you relate to the times would be from watching "Remember the Titans" with Denzel Washington. Charles Hanks will always be remembered for his star athlete qualities of his younger days. Amen, amen, Aaamen.
We will keep you posted as more information is shared.Gonna miss you Charles...Bill
