According to several sources who asked to remain unidentified, former Arkansas State Trooper Darryl Winston is expected to run for Phillips County Sheriff.
Winston recently retired from the Arkansas State Police. He also worked for former Helena-West Helena Mayor James F. Valley in recent months.
Winston has not made a formal announcement. He would be expected to face-off against long-time Sheriff Ronnie White. Phillips County voters have not elected a black sheriff since Reconstruction. Former Chief Deputy T. L. Green served in an appointed capacity for part of a term in the 1990s.
