Superintendent Willie Williams |
Just weeks after announcing one of the largest reductions in force in the history of the Helena-West Helena School District (HWHSD), the Inside Scoop Online has learned that the school district is sending a letter to every employee nonrenewing them for their position for the coming school year as part of an effort to ram through a 3% pay cut for all remaining employees.
According to sources close to the situation, the school district asked the employees remaining after the reduction in force to accept a 3% reduction in the published salary schedule. That was submitted to the teachers via the district's Personnel Policies Committee as required by state law. The teachers overwhelmingly voted against the proposal. In response, the district has decided to lay all of them off and bring them back with the wage reductions as new employees.
The Inside Scoop Online has sent electronic messages to the Superintendent asking for a statement regarding this matter. As of the time of this publication, that had not yet been received. When one is received the Inside Scoop Online will publish it.
