The Helena-West Helena School Board will meet tonight at 6:00 p.m. They will consider, among other things, the requested hearings from a number of RIFFED (or to be RIFFED) employees. The names of those persons have been withheld in an effort to permit full disclosure of the relevant facts inside of the hearing room. This effort is intended to keep the system honest and objective where the board members are permitted to get the actual facts and make a decision based upon those facts.
Board Member Christopher Franklin has an alternative meeting with the Helena-West Helena City Council, on which he sits. At press time, it is unknown which meeting Mr. Franklin will attend since they are scheduled on top of each other.
Unifying Voices has issued a requests for members of the group and the community at large to attend the school board meeting/hearings and to support the employees during these difficult times.
Many questions loom in the community about the RIF process and whether the district is following its own policy. Other questions persist about the financial status of the district and the plann going forward. The Superintendent, School District Attorney and Board President, appeared on Saturday's radio version of the Inside Scoop to address some of these issues. The district's policies are available for viewing on its web page: HWHSD WEBPAGE.
The podcast of that program will be made available in our podcast section as soon as staff can make that happen.
