Boyfriend Implicated in Murder of Laquanta Henry
HELENA-WEST HELENA - - - The Inside Scoop has learned from authorities that an arrest has been made in the shooting death of Ms. Laquanta Henry. Ms. Henry, 21, was born on February 8, 1990 and was reportedly killed by a single gunshot wound to the head on Friday, April 22, 2011 between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m.
Mr. Earnest Larry, Phillips County Coroner, and Mr. Ray Price, Helena-West Helena Police Chief, have separately confirmed receiving calls around 3:00 a.m.on Friday informing them of the situation. Mr. Eugene Handley, Deputy Coroner, made the death pronouncement. In cases of homicide, it is fairly routine, that the body of the deceased is sent to the State Medical Examiner's office for an autopsy and ultimate determination of the cause of death. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, April 25, 2011.
We have now learned that a suspect is in custody. Mr. James Higgins, 60, who resided in the 1300 or 1400 block of Pecan Street which is in North Helena and near the North Helena (Cleo Stroger Dunnings) Park; has been arrested and charged with the death of Ms. Henry.
We have not yet accessed the police report in this matter. Therefore we cannot quote any statements or explanations that have been offered by Mr. Higgins. The police department informs us, however, that the investigation continues. Detective Michael B. Thomas is the lead investigator on this matter.
