Arkansas Activities Association Announces Reclassification Numbers; Cougars Hold On to 5A status

The Arkansas Activities Association released its reclassification numbers for the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 academic years this week, and, to the surprise of some, the Helena-West Helena Central High School Cougars remained in Class 5A despite declining enrollment numbers.  Still undetermined are the conference assignments for that cycle.

Out of 295 high schools in the state, Central is the 56th largest.  The largest school in Class 5A is Jacksonville.  The smallest will be Pulaski Academy, which is returning to the classification after spending the current cycle in Class 4A.

Go Bears!
Barton remains in Class 3A.  Like Central, Barton will be one of the smaller schools in its classification.  The Bears have been bumped up into Class 3A ever since the forced merger with the now defunct Lakeview School District.

The Marvell Mustangs will play in Class 2A, the smallest classification for football.  KIPP will play in the state's smallest classification- Class 1A.
